The Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga central constituency Isaac Adongo has reacted angrily to comments made by the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Upper East region urging his constituents to vote massively against him. This is against the backdrop of the Minority in Parliament has raising eyebrows over the 366 million-dollar cost of the 60MW Pwalugu Dam Project being constructed by the Government, saying it is outrageous.
Speaking at a press conference in Bolgatanga, the Chairman Mr. Anthony Anamoo accused Mr. Isaac Adongo for boycotting discussions at the finance committee on the Pwalugu multi-purpose dam. According to him, the member of parliament has not shown enough commitment to developmental issues to deserve another term in office.
“members of the minority on the finance committee in parliament including Isaac Adongo the Tidonsobligo Adam Smith refused to attend the committee meeting to deliberate on the PM deal which has positive effects on the lives of our people. Where was Isaac Adongo and the minority on the committee? If the minority will not attend he (Isaac Adongo) should have attended” he said.
The Chairman went on to urge the electorates to vote against him in the upcoming general elections. He believes the MP’s interest is far from what the people behold.
“we will at this juncture call on the electorates in the Bolgatanga central constituency to vote honorable Adongo as his interest is antithetical to that of the constituents.” he declared.
The lawyer further said the lawmaker should be declared a persona non grata and vote for their parliamentary candidate in the person of Rex Asanga.
Meanwhile Hon. Isaac Adongo has reacted saying all what said against him are untrue and debunked claims he deliberately boycotted the committee sittings. According to him, the meeting coincided with the burial of his late mother and there was not any such meeting.
He went to educate the party Chairman on parliamentary procedures and urged him to cease speaking out of ignorance. Hon. Adongo also stated that he was never officially invited to any meeting and the launching of the project by the President.
“I heard they said I didn’t appear there, I was not invited to that program and I was surprised to hear it in the media and even though I am a stakeholder in the region I was invited to the program. Anamoo is saying that I should be a magician to be noising around government projects… so the accusations are not true but their own fabrication” he said
The law maker said the president lied to the nation when said the project will be funded by the government but indeed he is borrowing for the project.
Government on Friday, 29th November, 2019 cut sod for the construction of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam and Irrigation Project. The Pwalugu Multipurpose project will consist of three main components, namely the construction of a hydropower plant; the construction of a solar farm; and the establishment of an irrigation scheme covering an area of some twenty-five thousand (25,000) hectares.
